a sanctum : santa catalina

While we were in Arequipa, we used the opportunity to spend quality time with Chris' family and recharge. Spending more time checking out its renowned restaurants and local delicacies than the normal touristy things, but one of the things we did do was visit Santa Catalina.

Arequipa is famous for the use of silla in construction of buildings, and the old city is full of it. Santa Catalina is the most incredible nunnery located in the heart of the old city center, made predominantly of sillar it is a burst of colour and filled with nooks and crannies to explore. We spent over half a day there, wandering around and taking photos (hundreds of them!!), and each corner you turn is as magical as the one you just left behind.

I'm yet to meet anyone who hasn't fallen in love with the place....

what do you think?

(p.s. image overload warning - honestly I couldn't cut it down any further!!)
